REVIEWS

"Hilarious ... just shy of brilliant ... Merlin's walk on the Wilde side is a droll stroll .... Acord captures the quintessential queeniness of Quentin Crisp ... Bonnem does a fine job as Williams .... It's Remington's Capote that steals the show .... you forget its not really Capote on the stage.  Its a great performance ... Damione deftly holds his own against his colorful compatrriots ... Carved in Stone is a little slice of gay heaven."

eyeSPYLA.COM

"Loony, crazy quilt of a play ... A bizarre mixture of camp, sophisticated comedy, 'ontological discussions' ... Its great fun to watch and provides plum roles for its actors ... They capture the wit, skill and bitchy badinage.  Acord delivers an elegant Quentin Crisp ... Merlin's Wilde is played out with impeccable hauteur and comedic timing ... Egan is appealingly goofy, and Abel is virtually a show unto herself"

BACKSTAGE WEST

"Succeeds primarily as a parlour comedy ... sophisticated dialogue hums along jauntily ...  imaginative set-up and wicked satire ... Capote is the most fully drawn of the quartet and Mr. Remington navigates his skilled impersonation into surprisingly deep waters ... Bonnem's impression is well-crafted and authentic ... Merlin's brilliant Oscar Wilde is forever dropping one of his trademark quips ... 'cameos' are performed by Amanda Abel and Alex Egan ... their musical and comic turns are riotous and alone worth the ticket price"

EDGE

"This sarcastic farce is very quirky and biting!  The comedical pacing is extremely wild!  The ensemble cast of characters are just as amusing as they portray these giants of the 'gay' English language literary scene ... this show offers plenty of laughs throughout, right up to its very big finish ... Carved in Stone is unique in its premise and downright funny."

Video + Internet + Improv
Tilted Frame is back with a new format, following the life of a Hollywood screenplay, using their signature live video and internet forms. Come check out "Improv for the 21st Century."

Featuring: Gareth Berrow, Jordan Black (Groundlings, Punk'd, Halfway Home, MTV’s The Lyricist Lounge Show), Candace Brown, Dorien Davies, Jayne Entwistle, Beth Geiger, Caleb Martin,  Carl Petersen, Colleen Smith (Groundlings, The Showbiz Show with David Spade, Puppet Up), Kenny Stevenson, Victor Yerrid (Puppet Up) and Brennan Vetter.

“The talented cast takes suggestions from the audience and riffs, improv style, but with a technological twist. With video and computer screens, they maneuver in and out of the stage (you have to see it live to get the full effect). There are a few glitches here and there (and kudos for being able to coordinate dialogue while manipulating media), but the actors use each mistake to their advantage, joyfully pointing them out, in fact, and gaining our respect. It is obvious they are all having the time of their lives.”

IMPROV WORKSHOPS @ THEATRE ASYLUM

David Razowsky

On Tuesday, February 3rd, David Razowsky, Second City alumni and former Artistic Director of the Training Center of The Second City Los Angeles, will be moving his long-running Advanced Improv Drop-In workshop to The Asylum Theatre, 6320 Santa Monica Blvd.

The basis of this class is to remind ourselves that all improvisation is acting, and to focus on the ease of getting to the scene as soon as possible, staying focused on your partner, feeling comfortable with silences, and making scenic choices outside of your expectations. Learn how to make the scene come to you instead of you searching for the scene.

Advanced Improv is a $30 per class drop-in program offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-7 p.m. Students who have not taken classes with David are encouraged to email him prior to their first visit to the class - This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

What actors have said about Razowsky’s classes:

“David’s approach to improvisation really opened my eyes to a whole new way of thinking.”

“David was beyond excellent--he was an inspirational master guru of improv instruction!”

“This program was outstanding and took my performance to another level.”

“David Razowsky is an amazing teacher and pushes every student to reach the best of their ability.”

“…an inspiring, high energy, kick-ass teacher!”

“David is a gift!”

TILTED FRAME stretches the boundaries of traditional improvisation…
They drop the facile and forced wackiness of comedy club improv for a far more daring and difficult form."

SF Guardian

Combined Artform– (formerly – C.A.F.E. (Combined Art Form Entertainment)) is back in San Francisco with their unique improvised theater show, TILTED FRAME combining comedic improv scenes with technology such as video cameras, projectors, and Internet connections. The result is techno- improv, fast-moving, in an audience-pleasing style.

Created during the .dot com era of San Francisco by Combined Artform in 2002, TILTED FRAME examines the world of technology and entertainment. Bringing some of the original members, mixed with new ones to create a newly developed improv show for you, with some of our signature pieces like Craigslist and new formats like Twitter. Each show is digital and original.

Having expanded into Los Angeles at Theatre Asylum in 2007, Combined Artform’s Artistic Director Matthew Quinn is excited about having TILTED FRAME's in both cities and looks forward to developing the shows to allow both groups the ability to perform together through the Internet sometime this summer.

In addition, certain shows will feature guest groups from the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Come and see two different shows then stay for the Jam following. An excellent evening of Improv comedy.

Featuring: Daniel Berson, Diana Brown, Christopher DeJong, Sara Eismann, Cheryl Fidelman,
Wylie Herman, Mariah Howard and Denzil Meyers

Executive Producer:
Matthew Quinn
